Prof. Dr. Michael Levin

Vannever Bush Professor in the biology department at Tufts University

Michael Levin is Distinguished Vannever Bush Professor in the biology department at Tufts University and associate faculty at Harvard's Wyss Institute. He serves as founding director of the Allen Discovery Center at Tufts, and co-director of the Institute for Computer Designed Organisms. He received dual bachelors' degrees in Computer Science and Biology, and a Ph.D. in genetics from Harvard University. His laboratory integrates biology, computer science, and cognitive science toward an understanding of intelligence in a wide range of evolved, engineered, and hybrid systems. Applications of the work range across regenerative medicine, bioengineering, AI, and philosophy of mind, and has specific implications for novel approaches in aging and longevity.
